MCS Designs

If you are interested in developing a home based business, it is important to follow the rules of your city regarding setting up a business in your home.

After deciding to turn her hobby for making jewelry into a home based business, Mary Caroline Spano, started a company called MCS Designs.

The first step was to apply for the proper zoning license for her home. The next step was applying for federal and state business tax numbers so that she could properly report her taxes.

Afterwards, Spano did all she could to market her business. She attributes the success of her business to her marketing skills and having found something that she enjoys doing.

Popularity of Microenterprise Increasing

The Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBC) has announced a new microenterprise intitiative involving training that will be provided to small business owners especially home based businesses.

The LSBC felt that providing training to these microenterprise owners was necessary because many of the owners have never had any training on how to setup a business, develop customer relations, or do simple accounting.

A microenterprise is defined as a business involving “five or fewer employees and requiring less than $35,000 in startup capital.” Many home based businesses fall into this category.

This training will be will received by the small business owners who account for 99% of the state’s employers.

The (Almost) Perfect Home Based Business

After having reached the “Millionaire’s Club” for Ameriplan USA, Chris Bellina had lots of advice to give:

"I realized that the first step in selecting a home based business was in determining if I really wanted to do it...if I wanted to really try to succeed and not be an arm-chair quarterback.” Bellina continued to say, "I find that this is probably one of the hardest hurdles to cross, making the decision and the commitment to actually succeed. So many times, we let a burst of emotion dictate a path, and we end up right where we started...so my first tip is to make up your mind to succeed and set a solid foundation for success. You gotta want it."

Bellina went on to say that the second step in starting an (almost) perfect home based business, is to separate yourself from your emotions. Especially if a company is trying to appeal to your emotions about why they are a good home based business for you.

The article ended cautioning people to keep in mind that they will have to spend some of their own money on things like marketing and advertising.
